Effective August 29, 2025, the United States has eliminated the de minimis exemption, which previously allowed low-value shipments (under $800) to enter the country duty-free. This change means that all imported goods, regardless of value, are now subject to applicable U.S. import duties, taxes, and fees.

What Does This Mean for You?

  • All Shipments Are Now Subject to Duties and Taxes: Previously, shipments valued under $800 were exempt from duties. Now, every imported item is subject to U.S. Customs duties and taxes, regardless of its value or country of origin.
  • Potential Additional Costs: Depending on the product category and country of origin, duties can range from 10% to 50% of the item’s value. For instance, products from countries like India may attract a 26% duty, while those from South Korea could face a 25% duty.
  • Impact on Shipping Costs: The elimination of the de minimis exemption may lead to increased shipping costs, as carriers adjust to the new regulations and incorporate duty collection into their processes.

Our Shipping Options

To accommodate these changes, we offer two shipping options:

  1. DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)
    • What It Means: All duties, taxes, and fees are prepaid by us.
    • Customer Impact: The price you see at checkout is the final price. No additional payments are required upon delivery.
    • Note: Product prices may be slightly higher due to prepaid duties.
  2. DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid)
    • What It Means: Duties, taxes, and fees are not included in the product price.
    • Customer Impact: You will be responsible for paying these charges directly to the carrier or U.S. Customs upon delivery.
    • Note: You may be contacted by the carrier to pay import charges before receiving your package.

Impact on International Shipments

  • Global Applicability: This policy applies to all countries, including India. For example, India has implemented a flat 50% customs duty on declared package values for shipments to the U.S.
  • Postal Service Adjustments: Some countries have suspended postal services to the U.S. to adjust to the new regulations. For instance, India resumed postal services after establishing systems to collect duties upfront.

Will I be charged duties if I choose the DDP option?

No. Under DDP, all duties and taxes are prepaid by us, so you won’t incur additional charges upon delivery.

What if I choose the DDU option and refuse to pay the duties?

If you refuse to pay the required customs charges, the parcel may be returned or destroyed. In such cases, we will not be responsible for refunds.

Are digital products affected by these changes?

No. Tariffs apply only to physical goods. Digital downloads are not subject to tariffs.

What is the difference between DDP and DDU?

Under DDP (Delivered Duty Paid), all duties and tariffs are prepaid by Craple, and you will not be charged anything extra upon delivery. Under DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid), the buyer is responsible for paying duties and tariffs upon delivery.

How can I determine which shipping option applies to my order?

Each product page will clearly display whether the shipping option is DDP or DDU. If it is DDP, the total price you see already covers all tariffs. If it is DDU, you may need to pay these charges separately upon delivery.
